 A Green Card, Alien Registration Receipt Card Form I-551, is the permanent work and residence permit for foreign nationals who reside legally in the U.S.

2. What is a family based Green Card?
  
 A family based Green Card is issued based on the fact that you have a relative who is a citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.

3. Who is eligible to sponsor a family based Green Card?
  
 To be eligible to sponsor a relative to immigrate to the U.S. you must:
  
 
      Be a citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. and be able to provide documentation proving your status
      Prove that you can support your relative at 125 per cent above the mandated poverty line

4. As a U.S. citizen, who can I sponsor for a family based Green Card?
   
 As a U.S. citizen, you may petition for the following foreign national relatives to immigrate to the U.S.:
  
 
      Husband or wife
      Unmarried child under 21
      Unmarried son or daughter over 21
     Married son or daughter of any age
     Brother or sister, if you are at least 21 years old
      Parents, if you are at least 21 years old
  
 Note: You must be able to provide proof of the relationships.
